There once was a little town named Bluffton.
Some very enterprising people figured out this heart of South Carolina town had plenty of room
to grow, and grow it did. Just over the bridge from Hilton Head Island, Bluffton has grown
exponentially since the 1990’s, providing splendid opportunities if you are looking at homes for
sale in the Low Country.
The original one square mile town is now called Old Town – eclectic, artsy, quirky and filled to
the brim with Southern charm. You will find fresh May River oysters (as its name suggests, the
area is nestled on a May River Bluff), all manner of artistic endeavors, plus some extraordinary
history and historical architecture. The moss-draped tree lined streets and relaxed atmosphere
are downright intoxicating. Probably why many tourists make it their home. It is really hard to
Several residential communities and commercial areas continue to bloom outside of Old Town.
Bluffton is one of the fastest growing communities in South Carolina, yet has managed to keep
all the charm of its cherished original size. My first home was in the “boom area” – a great,
medium sized golf course community that was a wonderful place for my kids. Real estate in
Bluffton can range from the mid 200’s for smaller or “starter” homes to millions in one of the
high – end gated communities.
And what is the “Bluffton State of Mind”? It is a question that can only be answered when you
get here and experience it for yourself.
