    Pinckney Colony

This long country road off Highway 278 just west of Rose Hill Plantation leads to an area with working farms that still raise cotton, cattle and horses. Some of these are still owned by members of the Pinckney family, whose forebears signed the Declaration of Independence. At its far end, on a bend of the Okatie River, is the old Pinckney farm, with its gracious home shaded by a grove of pecans and oaks.
